Slone Receives Patient Safety Hero AwardKHA and the K-HIIN group recently recognized Sherry Slone, House Manager at ARH Our Lady of the Way Hospital as the latest Patient Safety Hero Awardee. Slone was nominated by Billie Turner, chief nursing offiver for her efforts in leading patient safety improvements throughout the hospital.

As per Turner, Slone performs at a high level of accountability in almost all the categories highlighted by the Patient Safety Hero Award. She leads the facility's 16 safety coaches and takes responsibility for educating them and keeping them up to date as well as assisting all of them in completing their weekly reports. Slone has been heavily involved in Saint Joseph Martin's sepsis improvement efforts. She currently reviews all sepsis diagnosis charts for compliance with their sepsis bundle and also assists in educating staff and physicians regarding sepsis criteria and treatment. In addition, she has identified patients in real time who meet the criteria and worked with physicians to assure they receive the fluid bolus and other appropriate treatment. Turner noted, "Sherry always has the safety of the patient at the forefront and is a true asset to our organization. Receiving this [award] would be a great recognition for the hard work and dedication Sherry contributes to the safety of patients in our organization."
